Biography

If I tell people my name is Cynthia they automatically assume I prefer to be called Cindy. If I correct them they look at me as if I just spit on their shirt. If I tell them my name is Cyn they either think they heard me say Cindy or they simply can't process that the word Cyn could be someone's name, and then I feel a sense of obligation to explain the etymology of the word.
I was Cindy as a young girl and even into adulthood, but it's a name I've outgrown. The trouble with living one's life in the same town in which they grew up is that such frivolous pursuits as evolving as a person are denied. My conclusion is this: if you call me Cindy you either don't like me or you think you know me and you don't and we should probably have coffee and get to know one another better.
If you could change your name who would you become?
